Through reading and annotating two texts, I have learned new techniques to increase my reading skills. I have also found that my strength comes in asking questions of the text. When I ask questions I find that I follow along with the text better and get a better understanding of what I am reading. In the most recent reading I found that I had much more highlighting on key concepts than in the first reading. While annotating I typically alternate between two colors. One I use to highlight the question or initial idea and then I use a new color to highlight the answer or supporting topics. Another technique that I learned from the first reading and put into place in the second reading was writing questions in the margins or next to my highlights. I also use the margins to take notes of what I agree and disagree with. If I agree with a point I just write agree and then underline it. If I disagree I underline the point and then write why I disagree. In just a few assignments I can already see my active reading skills improving, and I know that I can continue improving with more readings.
