Our group decided to use an infographic to get demonstrate the highlights of our research. We thought it would be eye catching on the floor and that it would be a quick and easy read for nurses and visitors. Our group has yet to get feedback from our clinical instructor or the unit, but I look forward to getting it so I can better myself in clinical practice.
From this team I learned so much about the reason behind tracking intake and output. It is something almost every unit in the hospital does to make sure the body is functioning properly and the kidneys are being perfused enough, but on a cardiac heavy floor, like R7, it is even more important. With patients in heart failure, etc., they are not perfusing their kidneys enough which can lead to a decrease in urine output. If no urine is coming out, you need to watch how much liquid is going in because you can cause fluid overload. This would just make these patients symptoms worse, not better. This information will help me in my future career as a nurse because I am already trained in the importance of tracking I&O’s and will better at tracking I&O’s because of my knowledge. Documenting accurate I&O’s tells the doctors whether they need to diureses the patient, increase there fluids, restrict their fluids, etc. I can show a future employer the outcomes we identified in proper intake and output tracking and if I am on a unit that does not properly track I&O I can use my knowledge and evidence based practice to show why they should better track I&O.
In this project, I found that I was good at the written portions of evidence based practice and that others were better at making it visually pleasing. I contributed in every step of the project, but the research and written portions I found myself more heavily involved in. Our teams process was very successful because everyone contributed their own ideas but we also worked really hard to listen to each other ideas. No one was unheard in the process of this project which helped us succeed. Since everyone had a say in what was happening and what the project would look like we had a visually please, but also informative final result. I am excited to instill what we learned into my practice in the future as a nurse.
I think that you and your team did a great job on your project proposal and the pamphlet! I thought that the background of practice was nicely done. I liked how it was included that that there might be two possible reasons why there is a lack of charting intake and output. This section stated two possible reasons for the problem and then further in the project proposal there were interventions, so I thought it was well done and easy to follow. I think that the findings and conclusions section was very good! I liked how you talked about the interventions and ways that the barriers could be broken. I thought the implementation section was very specific to where it was being done and how you all were going to implement it on your floor. Overall, I thought the project proposal was very well thought out and nicely done. I thought that pamphlet was well done. It included key points from the project proposal that encapsulates what you guys are trying to achieve. I like how you included a section on how the patients can help because this can be a part of the education that a nurse can give to the patient. Overall, I thought the topic of your project and the execution was great!
Your brochure about Intake and Output looks great! You included all necessary information, but kept it clear and concise. The graphics will easily catch attention. I also liked that you included a quick summary on the front pamphlet, that will allow readers to get a glimpse of what they are about to review. I also liked that you included the section about addressing barriers. That is very helpful for the nursing staff to understand what needs to be overcome in recording correct values.
This brochure looks great! It brought to my attention the importance of accurate I/O. As sometimes I think this aspect of nursing gets over looked or put to the side, sometimes understandably given the staffing shortages, ratios, etc… I think it is always good to come back to the basics and this is one of the most basic things we as nurses can do to help the providers as they look through our documentation when it comes to making decisions on the patients next steps.
