I was unsure of who I was going to do because I don’t know many nurses in the pediatric specialty and many of my previous instructors and nurses have expressed their desire to do anything except pediatrics. Although this was discouraging, because I was not sure who to ask, my mom informed me that one of her friends works at Boston Children’s, a hospital I have dreamed of working at for the past 4 years. This woman is one of the parents of my mom’s piano student, so she is a woman I have met many times, but somehow, we have never discussed her work as a pediatric specialty nurse. Her and I have discussed nursing school many times and she has always encouraged me to keep going and that all the hard work would pay off in the end. She also has eased my anxiety about the NCLEX because she assured me that I know more than I think. She strikes me as an encouraging leader that is not afraid to get involved and step up to the plate when times get tough. She does not hold a formal leadership position, but she is the type of person who you feel comfortable going to for help, advise, education, etc. I am most interested in learning about what she has experienced in her work at Boston Children’s, as well as what it is like to care for sick children every day. I am also interested in what a typical day looks like from driving to Boston, working a 12-hour shift, and driving back. Her and I both live in the same town, and it is a 50-minute commute, so I would like to know how that affects her preparation for the day.

This is awesome Sam! I am glad that you found the right person to interview with that has a pediatric focus.
