Through the appraisal and synthesis, I discovered that there is a lot more training involved in culturally competent care than I thought. The training is fairly in depth and educations on how to provide care for varying cultures and patient cases. I would not say my assumptions about my topic changed, I would just say that they developed into a more in depth knowledge. I kinda of already knew the base information and has assumptions about the base information, but through research and appraisal I think I just built on my knowledge. I think my findings will guide me to be a more culturally accepting and informed nurse. I know that not every patient needs or wants the same treatment. The team agrees on the findings and I think we all learned a lot from what we found. As a team I think we are more prepared for a career as nurses.
As a team, the biggest challenge has been making our work sound cohesive. Even though we do the work together and all agree on what we are writing, it is usually clear who is writing what because we all have a different style of writing. To solve this the best we can, we all edit each others work and try to incorporate our work together instead of everyone writing different sections. We talk each other through what we are thinking which I think helps everyone understand where we are each coming from in our work.
